Hobonichi 5 Year Dilemma

I'm here to share a bit about my journey with the Hobonichi Techo journal. It's a neat little A6 journal where I planned to jot down daily snippets and pair them with a graphic on the opposite page. I started this endeavor in 2021, but by April, my journaling had fizzled out. I tried again in 2022 but didn't quite stick with it.

Now, I'm inspired by all the completed journals I've seen online, but I'm facing a dilemma. Should I continue using my current journal, which still has about two years of empty pages, or should I start fresh with a brand new one?

Continuing with the Old: Embracing the Journey

There's something to be said for continuing with my current journal. The blank pages aren't just gaps; they're a reflection of the days when life was too hectic or when I just wasn't in the mood to journal. Picking up where I left off could be a celebration of my journey, acknowledging the ups and downs. It’s a reminder that creativity doesn't always follow a strict schedule and that's perfectly okay.

Starting Fresh: A New Beginning

Alternatively, starting with a new journal could symbolize a fresh start. It's an opportunity to begin anew, without the reminder of past attempts. This fresh start could be motivating, offering a clean slate to create a new narrative without the pressure of the past.

My Decision

After pondering over this, I've decided to... start fresh with a new book. BUT now I need to be held accountable to using it! HELP!

Key Takeaways

This experience with my Hobonichi Techo has taught me a few valuable lessons:

  1. Creativity Has Its Own Pace: Sometimes, it flows freely, and other times, it needs a break. Both are part of the creative process.

  2. Embracing Imperfections: The unfilled pages in my journal are not failures but part of my story. They represent the ebbs and flows of life.

  3. The Power of New Beginnings: Starting anew is not about forgetting the past but about moving forward with new insights.

  4. Every Day is a Canvas: Whether continuing with the old or starting with the new, each day offers a fresh opportunity to express myself.

So, to all who journal, create, or are thinking about starting – remember that your journey is unique. It's not about filling every page; it's about the growth and stories each page, filled or unfilled, represents.

Happy journaling! Feel free to share your own experiences or thoughts in the comments. Let's keep inspiring each other on our creative journeys! πŸ“˜πŸŒŸ
